A paper mache octopus I made over the summer while taking a sculpture class. Was the oldest one there... by a good 5 years... was a little embaressing, but the art instructor loved it. We had one on one lessons while the other little ones were just fooling around, he also didn't have to monitor me like hawk to make sure I wasn't killing myself. When this was finished he was really impressed... mostly because it was probably the best thing to come out of his art studio. XD He said I need to enter it in an art gallery or fair type thing for teens, and said he'd be looking for it. So far it spends more time on a mosaic side table I made, with a skeleton paper mache hand stacked on top. My family appreciates my work in their own way. Oh well. :3 Perhaps it's not being seen by the city, but atleast the DA world can take a look. I used a thin sort of chicken wire for the body, shaped over a bucket. Then I cut long strips of corregated card board so that it could flex well enough after stripping a few layers off. Weaved thicker wire through the card board to make the tenticles keep a shape. Then paper mached. The slit eyes on the front that look like an octopus's is a toilet paper tube that's pinched inward and painted black. And finally, I used small foam circles cut down to about 1/4 inch and glued them paper mached to my tenticles to make suction cups you can't really see from this picture. Total time it took: About 3 days of 6 hour work periods. :3 I'm happy with the end result, maybe could use another coat of paint, but for now TA-DUH!
